LinkedIn Creator Mode: What you need to know

LinkedIn Creator Mode: What you need to know

If you’ve always dreamed of gong viral on LinkedIn, now is your chance.

Why? Because LinkedIn has launched a new feature called Creator Mode.

What is LinkedIn Creator Mode?

Creator Mode is a feature that helps you get your content to appear in LinkedIn search and helps you increase your discoverability with members who are not in your network.

This doesn’t sound like a huge deal, but before Creator mode, the content you posted would only be put in front of your audience, unless someone in your audience reposted it.

Now, with Creator Mode, your content can be seen by people who are interested in the topic you post about, even if you have no audience, no connections, and no followers.

How Creator Mode changes the user experience on LinkedIn

When Creator Mode is active on a user’s LinkedIn profile, their profile page will look different. The about section (aka, the “resume” section) will be moved further down the page. Now, in its place will be the content you’ve created and featured by pinning to the top of your profile.

In addition, the Activity section will no longer display your likes and comments on other people’s content. Now, only your content (or content you’ve shared from other creators) will be featured here.

How to use Creator Mode

Here’s how to turn Creator Mode on:

  1. Go to your profile page

  2. Click “Creator mode: Off” (located under Your Dashboard)

  3. Click Next

  4. Add up to 5 topics (think of these as hashtags) that indicated the topics you post about most often. You can go broad or niche. We initially recommend trying both.

  5. Click Save. Topic settings can always be changed, or you can turn off Creator Mode if you decide it’s not for you.

Is Creator Mode working? Are people’s audiences growing?

In our experience so far, yes.

Well, yes-ish.

In my case, I’m seeing a small but noticeable spike of engagement that I hope to see continue to grow over time. Admittedly, LinkedIn has not been a primary focus for me. That is changing, however.

However, our clients who are power-posters on LinkedIn are seeing a big change. They’re gaining more followers, something that was harder to do previously when the focus was more on the network vs. the follower count.

Our hot take: This could be a game changer. Keep an eye on it. And if you need some help getting your content creation going on LinkedIn, reach out. We’ve got you.
